Base Tree Reference

Odd numbers become 3n + 1. Even numbers divide by 2. Each row continues from the last value in the previous row.

Input examples and calculator limits

Example inputs

Enter a positive whole number, with optional commas, or a power of 2 using 2^N. You can add or subtract a whole number after the power.

27
A small odd starting number.
110,592
The workbook example, with commas.
2^750
2 raised to the 750th power.
2^1024 - 1
Exactly 1,024 consecutive 1s in binary.
2^750 + 1
One above the 750th power of 2.
2^256 - 27
A power of 2 with a larger subtraction.
2^4096 - 1
Exactly 4,096 consecutive 1s in binary.

Spaces are optional: 2^1024-1 and 2^1024 - 1 give the same exact number. The result must be a positive whole number. Fractional values, scientific notation, and other formula formats are not accepted.

How high can it go?

Full decimal input: up to 4,096 digits, excluding commas. The largest starting value is 104096 − 1, which lies between 213606 and 213607.

Power expressions: exponents from 0 through 4,096, optionally followed by + N or - N. The resulting starting number must fit the 4,096-digit limit. For larger exponents, enter the full decimal number if it fits that limit.

Long runs: calculation pauses after each batch of 10,000 rows. Select Continue to keep going.

Every integer is kept exact, and intermediate values may grow beyond the input limit. Browser memory and the size of the displayed table are the practical limits for very large runs.

For comparison, 21024 − 1 has 309 decimal digits, well below the input limit.
